If you come back from the Yucatan with one impression only, it is likely to be this: they make hammocks.
In fact not only do they make them there, the are aggressive about selling them. On the beach, in the shops, at the ruins…
These hammocks, however, were innocently hanging in a shop, not trying to force themselves on anyone. The shop was right next store to Treseluna (or something like that) where we had breakfast nearly everyday we were in Tulum. IT was delicious.

I haven't gotten around to writing up a trip summary yet, but I have started working on the photos.
Here is a picture of my baby in Merida.
You can see a few other shots by heading over to
Flickr. I've also set up a
Flickr group for people to post shots from the wedding and their trips.

This is just a quick post to say that we are back from our trip to Mexico. The wedding was beautiful and we had a great time in Tulum and Merida. This weekend I'll try to write a post about our trip, and I'm hoping to have some photos up as well.

Our tickets for Mexico have been purchased and our room for the first five days has been booked. Planning can now commence in earnest.
To that end I've started reading the
Moon Handbooks Yucatan Peninsula and marking things of interest.
Because we are going down for a wedding we will be spending the first majority of the trip in Tulum and surrounds, but the last three days will be ours to do with as we wish. And that's the part that needs the planning.

I don't know why I love audio tours so much, but I do. I've written about them extensively in the past and will continue to hunt them down for whatever upcoming trips we might have.
Today, while browsing around on
Audible I came across various audio tours of sites on the Yucatan Peninsula put together by a company called
TekTrek. I'm glad I found them through Audible first and not just by stumbling across their web site, because if that had been the case I never would have been able to figure out where to get them as there is nothing on their site even indicating that they are for sale. Now I don't want to tell them how to run their business, but it's an oversight they may want to correct.
Anyway, when I start to research our Mexico trip, I will have a better idea which tours are for us, but I'm sure we'll try out a couple of them if they fit into our itinerary.

To date my experience with Mexico has been confined to a trip to Cancun with my family when I was young, and a few border crossings to places like Juarez and Nogales. This is unfortunate because Mexico has long been a place that I would like to explore, but for some reason it's never at the top of the list when it comes time to plan a trip. What I really needed was an excuse, and now I have one.
Our friends J and W recently decided that in celebration of 10 years together they would tie the knot in Mexico. In Tulu, on the Yucatan Peninsula to be exact. I'm very excited about this even if it is more than a year away (January '08).
And while a year is a long time, it's never too early to start planning, I say. And so to that end I have set up a
Mexico resource page that I will be updating and expanding as plans progress.
Also, I ordered
Moon Handbooks Yucatan guide.
We will most likely only have 10 days, so we won't be able to see everything and I've got a lot of reading to do to see how our limited time can be best spent. If anybody has any suggestions or recommendations please pass them along.
